Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 Premieres on NICK!
TMNT2K12 made its debut today on Nick, and I must start off by saying it was quite amazing even thou it drives off the original 80s series slightly. The CGI will have several complaining about it probably, but seriously overlook it immediately. Anyways the series starts off with an actual story, and background to some of the turtles doings on the surface. In the opening mintues they turn 15 years old, hear the story of how they came to be and got Master Splinter to allow them journey to the surface world. On their journey to the surface, they discover their love for pizza while overlooking April and her father being kidnapped by guys in suits. Upon their sighting of April it's shown Donny has a crush on April, while they try saving her.
They fail misserably as in this series they weren't taught on how to be a team, yet. Anyways during the encounter, the Turtles can't seem to defeat the suits, and Michelangelo unmasks a suit to be robot with a brain in its stomach(Kraang). As he tries to explain it to the others, they're all in disbelief and return to the sewers. Their Master Splinter, tries to disipline them where somehow Mikey turns it to their favor blaming him. Where Splinter, agrees and explains he's not taught them to work together, along with his personal backstory as the human, Yoshi. Splinter, who was once a Japanese warrior, Yoshi who battled a mighty foe, the Shredder! Shredder, killed his wife and lost his daughter Miwa, possibly who'll be Karai. Afterwards he then decides they should go rescue the O'Neil Family, and one should become the team leader, he quickly selects Leonardo.
They team goes back up to the surface, where they stake out a Kraang base where the van that took the O'Neils showed up. They attack the driver, Snake and find out the information needed. As they go to the base with Snake, he gives them the slip; where they're forced to rethink their plan, but Snake over hears them. They stock up, and go for the Kraang base where Snake lies waiting for them. The Turtles send in the Van they stole as a diversion, to sneak into the base. Just while the van was used as the diversion it he'd the mutigen used to mutate them and it splatters Snake, mutating him into the creature SnakeWeed!
Inside the base the Turtles confront the Kraang, and make their attempts to rescue them. The Kraang also attempt to escape with their hostages, as the Turtles encounter SnakeWeed, named by Mikey. In the encounter Donny rescues April, the manage for the time to defeat SnakeWeed, escape the Kraang base and get April to her Aunt's. When returning home Splinter, explains why Leo's the leader and the Turtles make the news as a Throwing Star was found. Unbeknownst to them the Shredder has seen the telecast, and now knows of Yoshi/Splinter's survival wishing to finish their rivarly!
Conclusion:
After the premiere of this new series of was amazingly suprised at how humorious it was and how it actually kept my attention. I was honestly, doubting that I'd be able to not try and knock the series. There were so many quirky jokes thrown at you from practically start to finish that it almost felt better than most Turtles series to date. Even Splinter had alot to put into the episodes, even thou he had so little involvement as of now. All we know is Splinter is Yoshi, he lost his family due to his battles with his archrivarly the Shredder along with hints his daughter is Karai at this point.
The enemies in the premiere are Kraangs, who seem to be a legionious type of their precessors a very emotionless and use an android suit. When in public, they use the same type of exo-skins of guys in suits with faces of what look like Muppet People. Along with that the speak in utter, nonsense that even has their human allies confused like Snake. Snake is brand new to the series, and practically just a human allied with the Kraangs who sadly gets mutated in the crossfire. While our good pal the Shredder, voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson is only mentioned in flashback and debuts cloaked in shadowed out at the end.
As for our Turtles, and the O'Neils let's start off with the fact the O'Neils were only the plot-point for the Turtles to return to the surface for the series, for now we'll need to see how April will affect the series. While the Turtles; Leonardo, Raphael, Donnatello, and Micheangelo are actually wise-cracking and are just learning on how to be a team. This is actually a better telling to how, they'll become a great unit working together and gather from one another's strengths. Along with the features of how they're building the characters, they're new choice of voice actors also amaze me at how 2 are already popular movie stars; Leonardo is voiced by Jason Biggs known for the American Pie series, while Raphael is vocied by Sean Astin known for Rudy and Samwise Gamgee from Lord of Rings trilogy. As for Donny and Mikey they're voice by popular voice actors, Rob Paulsen the original TMNT Rap and Greg Cipes(Kevin 11 from Ben 10: Alien Force - Ultimate Alien), so people from different generations will find something useful about it.
I really hope people take this series into consideration, it has a lot of amazing potential that will impress Turtle fans and new comers to the series. It'll be one of the most talked TV shows, for kids and popular amongst the geeks worldwide. As for now, stay tuned to more episode summaries and reviews here at the Broken Infinite!
