1st Impressions: QUANTUM & WOODY #8

QUANTUM & WOODY # 8
Written by James Asmus
Art by Ming Doyle & Jordie Bellaire
Valiant Comics

FLIPPING THROUGH:
Okay. I just want to point out this insanity. Quantum and Woody ended up in a White Supremists Miltia stronghold where they worship Quantum .. till they found out he was black but then they got attacked by Quantum’s company, Magnum Security.  So, the White Supremists decided to let Quantum and Woody lead them in battle. Again, this is absolutely insane.

ART:
Doyle does a solid job with the art this issue. There is a good amount of detail, some decide emotional facial expression and good angles.  The body types and sizes varied and Doyle did  not disappoint. Yet, there is something about the art that just did not light my fire like Fowler’s did. Doyle still does a good job. Bellaire’s colors are nice and solid. They are not overly powerful, which fits this books style and slapstick panel work. A good job by this art team.

WRITING:
Asmus writes insanity well. You can tell that Asmus loves every last second of writing anything for this book. The dialogue, the plot , the characters are handled with such care and grace that very few writers can match it alongside the comedic aspects of it. Honestly, I am not usually one for a lot of humor in my comics but this book has been damn solid. Asmus never ceases to amaze me with what Eric and Woody will do to accomplish whatever goal they set for themselves. And this issue definitely had some surprises. The issue is quotable. The interactions are authentic and hilarious. The overall pace of the story was perfect. Asmus hits it out of the park with the ending of this second arc with solid characterization, comedy, action and fun!

OVERALL IMPRESSION:
This book continues to be one of the funniest, unpredictable and enjoyable books I have ever read. The art was good but the story was amazing.

RATING:

                I give Quantum & Woody # 8 a solid 8 out of 10. Pick it up Wednesday, February 19th.
