NYCC News: Priest & Bright Reunite For NEW Quantum & Woody Mini-series in 2014

PRIEST & M.D. BRIGHT Reunite for New QUANTUM AND WOODY Mini-Series  – Coming in 2014 from VALIANT

Valiant is proud to announce that Christopher Priest and M.D. Bright, the acclaimed creators of Quantum and Woody, will reunite for Q2: The Return of Quantum and Woody – an all-new, five-issue mini-series bringing the original world's worst superhero team into the 21st century!

Set wholly in the original continuity of Priest and Bright's groundbreaking Acclaim Comics series, the new mini – which represents the return of both creators to monthly comics – will pick up in the modern day, launching an older Quantum and Woody into an all-new adventure set 20 years after the events of their original series.

“Soon as Doc and I started hashing out the plotline, we got into a huge argument. It was just like old times. Happy to be back on the goat,” said Priest.

"It's enormously exciting to have Priest and Doc return to the iconic characters they made famous," said Valiant Executive Editor Warren Simons. "Over the years, the legend of the original series has only grown, and they're about to unleash a fearless new chapter in the lives of Quantum and Woody."

Whatever happened to the world's worst superhero team? Twenty years past their prime, the unlikely crime-fighting duo known as Quantum and Woody have long since parted ways and retired…until a middle-aged Quantum suddenly reappears with a brand-new teenage partner—and his wisecracking ex-best friend gets mad. Now Woody is out to break up the all-new, all-different Quantum and Woody and put an end to Quantum's recklessness and child endangerment…just as Quantum sets out to bring down a shadowy, globe-spanning agency of freelance spies and assassins. As Quantum's plan crumbles right through Woody's fingers, will the former friends set aside their differences…and their age…and their numerous health difficulties…to join forces one last time without driving each other crazy?

A veteran writer and editor with more than 35 years experience in the comic book industry, Christopher J. Priest has written nearly every major character in comics, with notable runs on series including Action Comics, Amazing Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain America, Conan the Barbarian, Deadpool, and many more.

M.D. Bright began his career in comics in 1978 and has worked consistently on some of the industry's most popular and enduring titles ever since. One of the all-time definitive artists of Green Lantern, Iron Man, and G.I. Joe, Bright has also contributed to Batman, Captain America, Thor, Wonder Woman and countless others.

Wayward Raven Releases New Title At New York Comic Con

(October 1, 2013)This year at New York Comicon, Wayward Raven Media is debuting their brand new comic book series Signed on their first birthday!!! The first installment, C: the missing, follows a talent agent/sorceress who investigates the known realms to find a missing client and in doing so uncovers a deeper plot where the cosmos hangs in a precarious balance. Myth, magic, and mayhem ensue. Other story arcs within the Signed world are currently in production.
In other comic book news, Wayward Raven Media has contracted artist James Beihl to complete the Horsemen series and artist Kat Ayer to work on a new one-shot named The Cycle. A children’s book is also in the development stage. All products are available on http://waywardraven.com. NYCC Comic News: A New Kind of Justice League of America

There has been so many different things coming out of NYCC but this certainly makes one of the best announcements. As recently reported here on BI, Evan Van Schiver will be taking over as artist on Batman: The Dark Knight as of issue #16. Which left us a question of  ... where is artist David Finch going?

And we go our answer to that all right. Finch will join Geoff Johns for the launch of the brand new Justice League of America title. The new title will join Threshold and the upcoming Superman title by Scott Synder and Jim Lee come next year. This new JLA will be spinning off the events that have transpired during the first year of Justice League, also written by Johns.

The first inkling of this happened in this months Justice League #13 where we saw Steve Trevor meet up with Green Arrow again for a different kind of mission, as they will operate for Trevor and A. R.G.U.S. Johns quoted to Newsrama that the new JLA title:

"The book is going to have a tone that is JSA[and] the original Ostrander Suicide Squad, which was very character driven and...utilized characters we don’t necessarily see together a lot," Johns said of the new book. "Those are the two biggest influences on where the book is going."

The new Justice League of America will definitely utilize an interesting cast as it features: Green Arrow, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern Baz, Stargirl, Kitana, Vibe and Catwoman. Johns also promised that this group will definitely feel very different from any other incarnation of the League. Stargirl, according to Johns, will be the heart of this team much like she was on his run on JSA. Meanwhile, Catwoman's reasons for joining are personal and deals directly with Steve Trevor and something she wants while Johns stated that this title will set up Martian Manhunter as the most dangerous man on the planet.

Look for the new Justice League of America #1 by Geoff Johns and artist David Finch to hit shelves early in 2013.

Yes, ladies and gents. Agent Coulson lives. The fan favorite character gets new life on tv as the live action show focuses on SHIELD itself. The pilot will be written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.

Joss Whedon was shown on a video about the upcoming tv show stating: "There was never going to be a SHIELD Show without Agent Coulson."

Fans were ecstatic by the news, hyping up the shows premiere in 2013.

NYCC: Scott Snyder and Jim Lee headlining new Superman title

If there was one BIG announcement that came out of yesterday's DC Comics panel, it was this one. In celebrating the boy scout's 70th anniversary (along with the upcoming 2013 reboot "The Man of Steel"), it was confirmed that a brand new ongoing series titled "Man of Steel" will debut next year and that the creative team for this comic, will be writer Scott Snyder and artist Jim Lee.

On the title fitting with the continuity & what should be expected with the debut
:

"This will play along with the other Superman books in the sense that it's in continuity, but we really wanted to carve out our own territory. This really is sort of the biggest, most epic Superman story we could do together while having our feet planted firmly in continuity and making sure that everyone had enough room. For us, this is an independent book and something that will challenge Superman in a big way that's unique to our book. At the same time, I'm friends with Scott and with Andy too, so we're really excited to play alongside each other and share ideas. I think one of the interesting things about him is that Clark is always Clark. But for Superman, the thing that makes him such a strong character is that the values he grew up with and the person he was raised to be are still at the core of what makes him the most powerful superhero on earth. This isn't going to be a story where it's Clark versus Superman or seeing the two of them split. It's more about challenges for Superman that rock him to the core emotionally, psychologically, and also physically. It really is going to wind up putting him up against someone who can go blow-to-blow with him and really take him down."

Artist, Jim Lee on why he decided to team up with Snyder on 'Man of Steel'
:

"I would say with my Co-Publisher hat on looking into 2013, it's Superman 75th anniversary. So we wanted to do a lot of great things with Superman in the coming year and expand the number of books we put out under his name. From an artist's point of view, I always want to work with the writers I admire. I've following Scott's work on "American Vampire" where I actually did a variant for the first issue, and I followed him straight through to "Batman" where I loved the way he introduced new mythology and made it seem so seamless and like it'd been there forever. I wanted a chance to work with Scott and do it on a character like Superman where we could see what he could come up with to show us what this character is about even as we've known him for 75 years. Scott and I had a breakfast at San Diego Comic-Con, and he walked me through this story, and I was sold from that moment on."

Along with this announcement, there was also shown new artwork at the panel, for the 2013 book by Mr. [Jim] Lee.

Stay tuned later tonight for another big Superman announcement in regards to the post-Grant Morrison era of "Action Comics", from yesterday's panel.
