Film News: Godzilla (2014) gets another rewrite; casting to begin soon

According from Bloody-Disgusting.com (and original source, Variety), the upcoming Godzilla reboot's script is going through another re-write. The writer doing this rewrite is Drew Pearce. Mr. Pearce also wrote the scripts for the upcoming Iron Man 3 by Marvel Studios/Walt Disney Pictures and Sherlock Holmes 3 by Paramount Pictures.

The upcoming US Reboot of the beloved moster and originator of the genre, "Tokusatsu", was a fan-favorite at this year's San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) earlier in June.  During the Legendary Pictures panel, they showed off the teaser trailer for the upcoming film to show what direction they were going for with this "re-telling" of the radioactive lizard and the response was highly well received from it's audience.

Mr. Edwards about the film's tone:

"We're just going to take it really seriously. I've wanted to see this movie this way all my life. Imagine if this really happened – as crazy as it sounds – what would it really be like?"

The redesign of Godzilla for the upcoming reboot was describe at the panel as "a gigantic centipede-like monster", but also remaining faithful to the creature's original design.

Gareth Edwards, the director of  2010's "Monsters", is still attached as the director and casting will begin in the coming months, Variety also reported.

The reason for this rewrite, which will take 4-weeks to polish, is to:

"They [Legendary] want to age up the characters so that they would fit with the targeted aged actors"

Drew Pearce joins a long list of writers, in regards to the film's script process.

Writers that  also gave a crack at this film were:

- David Callahan (Original draft writer/ 1st re-write)

- David S. Goyer (2nd re-write)

- Max Borenstein (3rd and recent re-write)

Godzilla made his debut back in 1954 with "Gojira" in it's native land of Japan. Two year later, in 1956, the film made it's American debut as "Godzilla: King of the Monsters!" and it's leading male actor was Raymond Burr, most famously know as TV Icon "Parry Mason".

Godzilla is still slated for release in theaters nationwide on May 16th, 2014 and the studio is expected to release it in 3d.
