No, seriously....spoilers abound in this article. If you have not seen The Avengers yet, here's some reassurance that it is awesome. but you really, REALLY shouldn't read what lies ahead if you haven't seen the film yet. Okay? Okay.
Now that The Avengers has been unleashed on the world, what's next for the Marvel Movie-verse? There's some speculation but this critic has a few ideas.
1) The Infinity Guantlet will soon be a prominent part of the Marvel Movie-verse. This is more or less guaranteed by the fact that FREAKING THANOS appears during the credits. For the uninitiated, Thanos is one of THE most deadly forces in all of comics. This is a guy who is willing to warp reality and kill half of all known life in the universe JUST to impress his crush...who happens to be Death. As in, The Grim Reaper. Yeah.....Thanos is crazy. He isn't called The Mad Titan for nothing.
2)A Life Model Decoy of Agent Coulson will appear. Tony Stark mentions LMD's in the film and even though Coulson dies in the movie, he's far too popular to not have some incarnation of him around. Though he might be ressurected with the previously mentioned Infinity Guanlet.
3) A S.H.I.E.L.D movie will happen. It'll focus on Hawkeye and Black Widow with Nick Fury and Maria Hill in supporting roles. The main villains will be A.I.M. That stand s for Advanced Idea Mechanics. MODOK will be in it.
4. More genre mixing in future Marvel films. In other words, it won't be uncommon to see Iron Man fight a magic powered foe like The Mandarin or see Thor go aganst a scientific abombination like.....The Abombination.
5. More cosmic Marvel movies. With Thanos incoming, there is going to be a ton of groundwork that needs to be laid down to explain what the hell is going on. There is almost definitely going to be a film relating to The Gaurdians of the Galaxy, The Inhumans, and/or The Nova Corps.
6. A Doctor Strange movie is likely. I say this just because then they could implement the supernatural into the Marvel Movie-verse as well.
7. Civil War. It's the defining Avengers tale of the last decade. It's going to happen. You'll see.
