Comic News: Green Arrow Passed To Lemire

Green Arrow #17 Cover

It has been no secret that Green Arrow is one of the titles that DC wants to push and mke Oliver Queen a big hero. Problem is, since the relaunch back last year, the book has gone through several creative changes. Yet, fear not. Writer Jeff Lemire will be taking over the title as of Green Arrow #17 and plans a long run with the title and character. Along with him will be former I, Vampire artist Andrea Sorrento.

  Lemire commented to Newsrama:

The Green Arrow stuff that I've responded to from the past is the Mike Grell stuff. I've liked a lot of other stuff, but I think for me, the direction and the mood and the tone that I really want is something much darker and more aggressive and really fast-paced action.
So this is my chance to do something in the vein of all the best Punisher stories or Daredevil stories or Batman stories – a really good crime noir story. So yeah, that's kind of the direction we're taking.
And especially Andrea now on our team. He has such a bold style, and he uses black so much and shadow. He's got a dark look to his art, but it perfectly suits the emotional tone of the book.

Lemire stated that he is using the clean slate that the New 52 has given him to redefine the character and his mythology while staying true to the core. His rebuilding GA's mythos and his crime noir approach might be what the book needs to boost sales. And considering how Lemire has been writing Justice League Dark , Animal Man and more with big acclaim, this formula should work for Green Arrow. Green Arrow #17, written by Jeff Lemire with art by Andrea Sorrento, will hit stores this February.
