Comics News: Daniel & Soule Get Powerful With New Superman/Wonder Woman Ongoing

As we got a slew of more DC Comics titles being cancelled (Threshold, Legion of Super Heroes [DAMN] & 2 others) , Tony Daniel moves from a short stint on Action Comics to a brand new launch of a major book. Superman's birthday year is going strong as we get news of an all new ongoing with Big Blue ... and he isn't alone. No! We already have Superman/Batman. Now, we are getting Superman/Wonder Woman.

Yes, for the first time, we are getting a new team up ongoing featuring the Amazing Amazon herself. Yet, this does make it that Superman will be featured in SIX ongoings for DC. (It seems that DC is going with sure bets to replace the titles that have been lost). The new ongoing will deal with the relationship between Clark & Diana, much like Clark's relationship with Bruce but different ... considering that Diana and Clark are in a romantic relationship.

The new ongoing will be written by Swamp Thing scribe, Charles Soule with art by Tony Daniel. Superman/Wonder Woman # 1 will hit stores this October.

Comic News: DC's Revolving Door Continues With Leavings & Comings

Zircher Knows Why I Put This Here
MORE CREATIVE SHUFFLE OVER AT DC

by Frankie Rodriguez (@SeraphSantana)

Over the course of the last two weeks, the following has happened over in DC: Joshua Fialkov resigned from Green Lantern Corps & Red Lanterns (& seemingly DC all together), Andy Diggle left Action Comics (& DC seemingly all together) and Tony Daniel announced his run on Action would only be for 1 arc. Funny thing about the first two is that this is announced BEFORE the first issues of the respected runs are to start.

While Daniel stated he left Action to do a "major" project for DC, it seems that Fialkov & Diggle are leaving for similar reasons as Rob Liefeld & several others ... DC editorial issues. That has become extremely infamous in DC. Even creators still there have had editorial issues, including one of comics reigning Queens, Gail Simone and the legendary George Perez himself.

Which gets into replacements and additions. Robert Venditti  with co-writer Van Jensen will take over writing Green Lantern Corps. Meanwhile, new Swamp Thing writer Charles Soule will take over Red Lanterns. Meanwhile, Suicide Squad gets a new artist in former Shadowman co-writer & artist Patrick Zircher starting with Suicide Squad # 21.  Eddy Barrows & Brett Booth switch titles. After 9 years, Geoff Johns is leaving Green Lantern. Nightwing writer Kyle Higgins jumps over to Dick's "brother", Terry McGuiness alongside former Venom artist, Thony Silas tackle Batman Beyond. Justice League Beyond gets a new creative team with artist Iben Coello and writer Christos Gage.

Right now, there is seemingly very little consistency. Some of this is for the better. Some of it ... not so much. Makes you wonder what is being planned and what is going on that keeps having creators leaving books or DC all together.

Comic News:More DC Creative Shuffle

Things seem to be a changing in DC Comics a lot these days. And now seems to be no different. Scott Synder is ending his run on Swamp Thing while Scott Lobdell is ending his time with Red Hood and the Outlaws. Fabian Nicieza recently became writer of Batwing after Judd Winick’s departure on the title. Ann Nocenti, the second writer on Green Arrow, is about to leave.

So many things are changing in terms of creative line ups within DC. Time to take a look at some of the latest:

Starting next week, Michael Alan Nelson will have his debut issue of The Ravagers as new writer, alongside artist Ig Guara in Ravagers # 8.

Ann Nocenti will be leaving Green Arrow. The book will be taken over by writer Jeff Lemire, as was reported in an earlier article. This change will happen come April.

Scott Lobdell and artist Timothy Green II, who recently replaced artist Kenneth Rocafort before he moved to the Superman title with Lobdell, with be replaced with writer James Tynion IV and artist Mico Suayan, who was the artist on Harbinger during Valiant’s relaunch last year. This change will take place in Red Hood & the Outlaws # 19.

Scott Synder will be leaving Swamp Thing to be replaced with writer Charles Soule and artist KANO on the book after the end of the Rotworld crossover with Lemire’s Animal Man. Soule & KANO take over in issue 19 coming out this April.

Gail Simone was hired back as Batgirl writer after fan outcry of her dismissal was made public mere days before.

There is an awful lot of shuffling. Are these books suffering? Are they looking for fresh ideas? Did the creators get tired?

The answer, it seems, to be a mix of all those. Synder commented that he always meant to end his time with Swamp Thing. Meanwhile, Green Arrow is getting his 3rd writer after  Dan Jurgens opened the series to pass it over to Ann Nocenti. Lobdell seems to be soaring high on Superman, so why not give Red Hood to Scott Synder’s protégé?

All these are interesting points. What will come of this creative shuffle? We’ll have to wait and see as we look towards the future of DC.
