Comics News: THE MIGHTY TITAN Is Now Available For Order in PREVIEWS

Imagine for a moment that you are the world’s strongest protector—TITAN, an invincible superhero who cannot be harmed by knife, bullet or bomb.  Now, imagine Titan’s mortal, regular-guy alter ego is told he has cancer.  What then?

That’s the premise of “The Mighty Titan,” Joe knows intimately what it’s like to deal with cancer— he’s been diagnosed and has beaten the disease… twice.

“I created ‘The Mighty Titan’ during my first bout with kidney cancer,” says Joe, “It was tough to take my personal experiences and put them on paper to entertain while giving people a glimpse of what I and other cancer survivors I’ve talked to have gone through battling this deadly disease.  It’s our way of dealing.”

Many comic industry veterans have helped Mr. Martino realize his vision.  Issue #1 features a cover by legendary artist Jerry Ordway, colored by Danielle Alexis St Pierre. “The Mighty Titan” also boasts the talent of penciller Luca Cicchitti, inker Jeff Austin, colorist Keith J. Betancourt and letterer Adam O. Pruett.

Make no mistake: even with its themes of vulnerability, loss and hope, “The Mighty Titan” is a fun superhero comic with vile villains, giant Mechs and amazing mythological creatures.
Concludes Joe, “I’m doing this comic series for my kids, Alyssa, Vincent and Alexander.  How we deal with misfortune defines us. I want them to know that, and never give up… just like Titan.”

Comic News: The Mighty Titan's 3d Kickstarter Fully Funded Within 36 hours With Franchesco Good Girl Variant Cover And Prints

Cancer fighting hero is back again with an amazing fan response.
The Mighty Titan’s 3d Kickstarter fully funded within 36 hours With Franchesco Good Girl Cover

Comicbook writer/artist Joe Martino is no stranger to Kickstarter. In August, 2012, his Mini-Series The Mighty Titan was funded through the popular crowd-funding site. This past May, Joe listed his second issue for the series on Kickstarter with an amazing response. Now, while funding his 3rd issue, Within 36 hoursthe book was above the goal amount.
Issue 3 has an amazing cover by DC Comics artist Steve Lightle (Legion of SuperheroesX-Men) with a variant cover by Good Girl artist Franchesco!. Joe is offering some amazing stretch goals for participants of this third issue; including prints as well as funding the 4th issue and giving it to everyone that pledges above the $20 level.
The Mighty Titan creator, Joe Martino’s (Arcana’s ShadowflameRipperman), explains that his newest creation, “Essentially takes my cancer (and other experiences) and wraps them in a superhero shell. This isn’t autobiographical (mostly because I don’t have superpowers). I have researched and talked to other cancer survivors to try and get the feeling of what other people have experienced with their cancer.”
Issues #1 and #2 were critically acclaimed by many online comic news sites.
“This first issue is pretty close to perfect.” — Jess Kirby, expertcomics.com
“…I expect that this series will only get better as time goes on.” — Ashley Olien,floridageekscene.com
“…a very unique super hero story, one that’s worth seeing for yourself.” — Matt Johnson,panelsandpixels.com
Martino initially developed the idea for Titan in 2004 as he was fighting his first bout with kidney cancer. “It was a tough decision to take some of my personal experiences and put them to paper in order to entertain and possibly allow people a glimpse of what some of us go through while battling this potentially deadly disease,” Joe explains.
Needless to say, while the story certainly has serious aspects, Martino insists, “This is still a cool, fun superhero book full of vile villains, giant Mechas, and some really great mythological creatures.”
Joe recently joined forces with Dave Ryan (The War of the Independents) and is forming a newer, strongerRed Anvil Comics.

The Mighty Titan Wants Your Help

Creator Joe Martino has been working hard on The Mighty Titan: The story of a hero whose human alter ego has Cancer. The 5 issue miniseries is going to be written by Martino, who is also a Cancer survivor with interior art by Luca Cicchitti, Cory Smith, Jeff Austin & Keith J. Betancourt. Variant covers are slated to be by Jerry Ordway, Jamal Igle & other high profile artists. The problem is that there is less than 7 days left and he needs your help. Head to his Kickstarter Here and help make his project a reality.

Here is background of The Mighty Titan in his own words:

Imagine for a moment that you were the worlds strongest protector. Imaginethat no knife, bullet or bomb can harm you. Then imagine in that moment you are told you have cancer.
Titan is a character who is for all intents and purposes, invulnerable. He cannot be harmed by any means known to man. His alter ego doesn't have such luck. Titan's alter ego is dying. What now?
Isn't this the perception that we all have when not touched by cancer? We are all under the belief that we are invunerable.  Aren't we all someone's protector? Aren't we all everything to someone?  Not until that lump, or pain, or (un)lucky scan.
How we deal with this defines us. How we live with this strengthens us. What we lose is innocence and the loss of a clear mind.
This is my epitaph. This is my way of dealing. This is my way of helping others understand what it feels like to be invunerable...
And then, one conversation, one sentence later... never feeling that way again.
"I am sorry, Mr. Martino. You have renal cell carcinoma." were the last words my 33 year old innocent, clear-minded self ever heard. From that day forward, I had cancer. Life was over. Even though, through the support and resolve of my friends, family and doctors. I survived. Twice.

All the pledges go into paying for the artists, printing and distribution of the first issue of the series. He is hoping the profits will help him produce issues 2 through 5. For full details, click the link above. Time is running out. Help Make Martino's dream come true.
