Comics News: Ultimate Marvel Prepares for Ultimate Spidey # 200 & Cataclysm

Announced during Marvel Ultimate Universe panel at SDCC 2013, we got some juicy tidbits coming to the Ultimate Universe. The panel featured writers Brian Michael Bendis, Joshua Hale Fialkov, Senior editors Nick Lowe and Steve Wacker and Marvel's Editor in Chief, Axel Alonso.
First up, as Ultimate Spider-man nears issue # 200, writer Bendis hinted on several big things to come with Utimate Spiderman ... including discovering the sins and superhumans of Roxxon alongside Spiderwoman, Cloak & Dagger, the return of Bombshell, introducing Ultimate Taskmaster and the return of Norman Osborn in issue # 200. As recorded by CBR, Bendis quotes:

“Miles has to meet Norman Osborn.”

Also, after going over details on what is coming up in Ultimates and Ultimate Comics X-Men, the other major announcement by editor Nick Lowe in the panel was the upcoming miniseries, Cataclysm:The Ultimates Last Stand. The miniseries will be written by Bendis with art by long time collaborator, Mark Bagley. The story centers around Galactus coming towards Ultimate Earth ... with the Ultimate Universe finding out about the main Marvel Universe but conflicted since they can't send back Galactus back there cause he'll just eat THAT Earth.

Bendis praised Bagley's art while Steve Wacker said that the miniseries will affect the entire Ultimate Universe line and Alonso added that there would be tie ins to Cataclysm long after the miniseries ends. Now actual release date has been stated for the miniseries.

After those details, the group took questions.

So, Miles will have a tough road ahead of him ... him and the rest of the Ultimate Universe as Galactus is coming and he's hungry.

Comic News: DC's Revolving Door Continues With Leavings & Comings

Zircher Knows Why I Put This Here
MORE CREATIVE SHUFFLE OVER AT DC

by Frankie Rodriguez (@SeraphSantana)

Over the course of the last two weeks, the following has happened over in DC: Joshua Fialkov resigned from Green Lantern Corps & Red Lanterns (& seemingly DC all together), Andy Diggle left Action Comics (& DC seemingly all together) and Tony Daniel announced his run on Action would only be for 1 arc. Funny thing about the first two is that this is announced BEFORE the first issues of the respected runs are to start.

While Daniel stated he left Action to do a "major" project for DC, it seems that Fialkov & Diggle are leaving for similar reasons as Rob Liefeld & several others ... DC editorial issues. That has become extremely infamous in DC. Even creators still there have had editorial issues, including one of comics reigning Queens, Gail Simone and the legendary George Perez himself.

Which gets into replacements and additions. Robert Venditti  with co-writer Van Jensen will take over writing Green Lantern Corps. Meanwhile, new Swamp Thing writer Charles Soule will take over Red Lanterns. Meanwhile, Suicide Squad gets a new artist in former Shadowman co-writer & artist Patrick Zircher starting with Suicide Squad # 21.  Eddy Barrows & Brett Booth switch titles. After 9 years, Geoff Johns is leaving Green Lantern. Nightwing writer Kyle Higgins jumps over to Dick's "brother", Terry McGuiness alongside former Venom artist, Thony Silas tackle Batman Beyond. Justice League Beyond gets a new creative team with artist Iben Coello and writer Christos Gage.

Right now, there is seemingly very little consistency. Some of this is for the better. Some of it ... not so much. Makes you wonder what is being planned and what is going on that keeps having creators leaving books or DC all together.

Comics News: Johns & All Creative Teams Leave, New Creative Teams Named

After 9 years, Geoff Johns who revitalized and popularized the Green Lantern franchise is bidding a fond farewell. After so many adventures with Hal, Guy, Kyle, John and Simon, Johns will leave a legacy behind that may well last for the next century to come. With that said, Johns isn't the only person leaving GL. All the current creative teams on the Green Lantern books are leaving. Yep. Doug Manhke, gone. Tony Bedard? Says Adios. Peter Tomasi, he's outta here. But Johns' leaving is one full of pride.

He commented on the Source that is final issue, Green Lantern # 20
:    "The bizarre return of Hal Jordan, the final fate of Sinestro, the revelation of the First Lantern and an ending that I hope pays off everything we’ve ever done and ever created with Green Lantern."

With that said, the brand new creative teams on the Green Lantern books have been announced and certainly some big ones.

First up. The torch bearer for the Green Lantern main title will be none other than Robert Venditti (who writes X-O Manowar for Valiant & Demon Knights) alongside former Marvel artist Billy Tan. Yes. Long time Marvel artist is now doing a flagship DC Title. It seems that Venditti backed out of writing Constantine in favor of writing Green Lantern and to continue his run on the cult favorite title, Demon Knights.

Meanwhile,Tony Bedard says a fond farewell to Kyle Rayner. Green Lantern: New Guardians will now be handled by writer Justin Jordon (who writes Valiant's Shadowman, taking over Superboy as well) with former Marvel (Dark Avengers) artist Brad Walker.  And Kyle as the White Lantern ... seemingly sticking around for a while.

Taking over in Green Lantern Corps is former I, Vampire scribe Joshua Hale Fialkov and former Demon Knights artist Bernard Chiang. Meanwhile, Fialkov will also take over writing Red Lanterns alongside artist Alessandro Vitti.

Finally, the GL titles get a new addition to its ranks. The greedy Larfleeze gets his own title to be written by comic veteran Keith Giffen with art by artist Scott Kollins.

With that, the only person with any extensive experience with the Green Lantern is Giffen; which makes these creative teams all the more interesting.

Check out Green Lantern # 20 coming in May while the new creative teams take over as of June.
