Straight Forward Reviews : Executive Assistant Assassins 13

We're back in the Daisy story arc in Executive Assistant Assassins. What does her journey entail now?

Review by Jeremias de Leon

Story

The story naturally picks up where the previous issue left off. With Daisy on the run from her father she and her boyrfriend must be careful wherever they go.

In it we see Daisy get fleshed out more and what kind of man her boyfriend that leads her to who she'll become is. The writing is well thought out and the dialog is alright. What really stands out is Daisy's dialog in particular and her inner monolog. It gives a nice insight into her mental state.

Her father however, is shown as just someone with pretty much no redeeming qualities. Besides mentioning not wanting to lose Daisy later on in the comic it seems he doesn't care at all. The story is still engaging though.

Art

The art style works really well in this story and it really stands out in this comic. It has a nice eastern flair to it's details. It's really cool and noticable on the page layout and environments especially and it's really darn cool.

Verdict
Is this issue worth picking up? It definitely is. Though I wasn't as enthralled by the story as last issue it was still compelling enough. Especially when it goes into Daisy's emotion and mental state. The art also has a nice flair that's real interesting. I give this issue of Executive Assistant Assassins a solid 9 out of 10

Straight Forward Reviews: BubbleGun # 2

With the second issue of Bubblegun out we're here to answer the question, is it still good or even better?

Review by Jeremias de Leon

Story

Already this issue improves over my complaint of last issue (I still really liked the issue mind you) about the backstory hardly being there. There's some time taken to explain things about Molli's past and about the world itself. Which is done well, there isn't a wall of dialog but it also isn't too short either. For a comic that has a lot of action in it they gave it a proper amount of time... or... panels.

The dialog is still well done as in the previous issues. Even though this is a sci-fi world with a lot of crazy cyborgs and the like the characters still talk and act like people would or as you would expect like people would. Maybe the antagonists are a bit flat for now but with one of them being a bit of a surprise perhaps the others will turn out to be more interesting too.

Art

The art looks great. I just love the stylistic choices made with the characters especially on the female characters hair. Even more especially Molli's hair. Her hair looks like a flame in most of the pages and it really makes her standout. The world is drawn fantastically when you see more of the world in this issue it really does look like it is an actual place with specific landmarks and the like when you take a closer look. Which I have to give credit for.

Verdict

This fixes the few complaints I had with the first issue, and it has good action scenes and a really cool art style so I have to give this a recommendation. When read with issue 1 it starts to make sense, issue 1 by itself I had a few minor gripes with though I still loved it but if read with issue 2 it really looks to be an awesome comic. I give Bubblegun issue 2 a 9 out of 10.

Straight Forward Reviews: Bubblegun # 1

Aspen debuts another brand new series this month after Jirni debuted in April. In this edition of Straight Forward reviews we look at cyberpunk action in Bubblegun issue 1. Sparkling issue 1!

Review by Jeremias de Leon

Story

The story in this issue, as it should do since it is a first issue, is set up the characters and the world. They debut in a big action scene that quickly lets you know what each characters strengths are and then afterward have some character building dialog and then at the end delve into what the plot for the next issues are going to be. In a spoiler free nutshell.

The writing is not bad, the dialog between characters is believable and well done. The world seems to be pretty huge and have a lot of lore for it. In this issue, it seems to be a good thing and a bit of a drawback. It looks like there's going to be plenty going on in this world to not run out of stories to tell but it also feels like there's some important things about the world that the reader should have known about the world; like a little as to why certain corporations are extremely powerful or important t the characters. The story doesn't stop being enjoyable but it feels like there could have been some more information. Though I'm sure there will be more explanations in the second issue.

Characters

The main character and the crew she's in are all distinct and, although some got more time to shine than others, it's obvious when reading their dialog that they all have tons of personality. Also their designs are all fantastic. I love their character designs, they all have this nostalgic flavor and new sensibilities at the same time. Plus they're all bright and colorful and Molli and her sister look fabulous. It's nice to see colorful characters like them.

Molli as a character has a lot of spunk and is very animated. Her sister is a nice foil for her, and their crewmates are all very distinct.

To speak about how well the character designs are, I originally was not supposed to review this book! But after seeing the first two pages and how the characters looked I was intrigued enough to want to review the book and see if it really was good.

Art

I already mentioned how much love I have for the characters. The whole comic is a colorful cyberpunk adventure and the inventive designs don't just stop at the characters. The weapons and technology are cool and the action looks flashy and stylish. The art is what made me pay attention and it will most likely get you to pick up the book. So it more than does it's job in my book.

Verdict

This book is tons of fun to read. There is less information about the world than I would like but it looks great and the characters are awesome. Plus there being less information than I'd like doesn't mean it is by any means not followable or poorly written. Quite the opposite. I give this comic an 8.5 out of 10

Straight Forward Reviews: Executive Assistant Assassins 11

The Executive Assistants are back. The last issue had a big shake up, just how is the world of Executive Assistants holding up?

Review by Jeremias de Leon

Story

This issue focuses on the backstory of a new assassin. No information on what kind of role she'll play or why she's being shown now but after the big events in the last issue getting new players on the EA: Assassins stage seems likely and she just may be a new protagonist, or antagonist even.

The assassin shown here is a woman named Rani who was trained by her father. We get development of her character through flashbacks with her father, showing how her training is, the relationship with her father and her knack for certain things which later shows to give her an edge over other assassins.

The writing in this definitely exceeded my expectations even with my expectations being raised since starting to read this series.

Art

The artist is different than previous issues but does a fantastic job. The characters all look like they're alive, not necessarily ultra realistic but they never look stagnant or like cut outs. When they move they look like they're flowing. Cool fight scenes, big explosions this book is full of them and they look great.

Verdict

Executive Assistant Assassins has always been a fun read and this issue adds character development to that. The art is different but still fantastic. Definitely a good starting point for new readers as this issue focuses on a totally new story and character. You won't need to have read previous issues to understand and the writing is solid and will have you intrigued. I give this issue a 9 out of 10.

Straight Forward Reviews: Jirni #2

Hey guys welcome to another edition of Straight Forward Reviews! This time we're looking at issue 2 of Aspen Comics' Jirni. A series that's been getting some hype behind it and has been selling well with it's debut. How does issue 2 hold up?

Review by Jeremias de Leon

Story

This issue begins with Ara traveling with the companion she made in the first issue. As for how that happened, go read that first issue. Ara is determined to look for anything that can help her find her mother and in this issue we see some parallels to her own story with the person she agrees to help. Though of course not exactly the same, as you would see when you get to the end of the issue.

One word comes to mind when it comes to Ara and what I feel from her in this comic. That word is determination. There's some more detailed flashbacks on what happened to her and how she got to be how she is. It really makes her resolve and her anger and sorrow palpable.

There's also a lot of mystery going on. Though you may be able to see where some things are going it's still intriguing plus, just because things look like they're going one way it's very possible it could do a 180. The writing in this really is a lot better than you might think.

Art

The art is truly gorgeous. The effects of Ara's power and the other magically powered beings magic are done really well. The action scenes are fluid and brutal. It's almost like a ballet of destruction in a way whenever Ara fights. The characters themselves are designed beautifully. They all have grace to them and the coloring work, with a lot of purples and blues mixed in with earth tones gives the comic a feel that there is magic at work because it's so different looking from the rest of the world. Even after reading the comic you might want to go back and just look at the art again because it's so pretty.

Verdict

I was honestly much more impressed by this work than I thought I would be. The writing isn't bad and the art is well, in plain english, just so darn pretty I can't see why I would stop anyone from picking this up. I give Jirni #2 a deserved 9 out of 10.

Executive Assistant Assassins issue 9 review

The Executive Extinction event rolls on and here at TheBrokenInfinite we continue to report on the action, hiding behind an undisclosed rock, safe from the Executive Assistants and Mazutsu's fighting. As we'd probably be able to be taken out by pretty much anybody in this series.

Review by Jeremias de Leon

Story

As stated in the last issue's review things are getting intense, and in this issue if it's not already at it's boiling point it seems it will reach it soon. This issue isn't about the action so much as it focuses on backstory and fleshing out the motives of the characters. Namely Mazutsu and Ivy. We see why Mazutsu is bent on destroying the Executive Assistants, especially Ivy and why Ivy is doing what she is doing. Alliances and betrayals are the order of the day in this issue as well, as we see former allies fighting and former enemies becoming allies. It's all done with reasons too, so it gives the story a sense of unpredictability but it doesn't come off as arbitrary either. The writing has always been pleasantly surprising me since I first started reading this series and it continues to do so in this issue.

Art

Readers, would you believe the art has gotten even better since the last issue? It seems even issues I didn't really care about or picked up on are fixed. The characters always looked good but they also are posed and convey motion even more believably than before. Something I mentioned in a previous review, that the characters in a panel or two looked stiff or unrealistic. I again must mention that it was a rare occurrence then, since the previous issues are more than worth looking at. But moving forward if this kind of level of art continues the series out to be a sight to behold.

Verdict

This issue's focus on backstory and motive building more than the action is great. It gives it more substance. Plus there's still action so it never gets boring it also doesn't drag on with it's motive building. The characters don't spout long philosophic diatribe or go into random poetry every character gets to the point about what they're thinking or they're explanations for what they're doing. Perhaps because as hardened mercenaries/assassins thinking too much about what you're doing or saying isn't stressed. I was thinking for a while on what score to give it but seeing what it's done fleshing out the story and making the art even better I have to say this is a solid 9 out of 10.

Executive Assistant: Assasins #8 review

Welcome back to TheBrokenInfinite's comic reviews. This time we're looking at Executive Assistant Assassins issue 8.

Review by Jeremias de Leon

alternate cover
Story

This issue certainly takes a step up in intensity. As if the previous issues didn't let you already know that the stakes are high this issue punches you in the gut with it. The Executive Assistants get into some brutal situations. If ever you doubted these women are trained killers, like you would if you've read any other issue, but if you did this certainly proves it.

On top of all the action there's more being unveiled and yet, at the same time getting cloudy when you get into just what's going on. More allies and enemies appear and motives are called into question. The story is truly starting to come together and the narrative style works well. It's not too vague, nor is it overly complex.

Art

The art is downright awesome. Even better than in previous issues. The one problem where certain random panels, usually action panels, didn't seem to have characters on model. Which was a minor complaint because those panels were few and far between has been improved here. Nothing in this issue seemed to be off and of course each of the characters being the beautiful women they're supposed to be were drawn with gorgeous detail.

they don't play around

Verdict

In all honesty I had reservations about this series. But this issue has put all doubts to rest. The writing is smart and of course the titular characters and action scenes look great. But the reason this series is great is because of the writing. Each character gets explored and each character is actually complex and have their own motives, desires, likes and dislikes and it makes this book just that much more of a good read.

Executive Assistant: Assassins upped it's game in a big way and I have to give this a 9 out of 10.

Executive Assistant Assasins #7 review

It looks like I'm taking my first step into reviewing an Aspen comics book. Let's see what we have here... oh! It's Executive Assistant Assassins

This is issue 7 and it's being reviewed by Jeremias de Leon

Story

There are female assassins who are banding together to try and take out a particular enemy they all have a grudge against. During the issue they try to start to work together instead of being lone wolves as they learn that isn't the best way to handle things right now.

This issue has some exposition on who and what exactly the assassins are after but the book is really focused on why. Their motivations are explored more than anything else and so is their enemy's. Also of note, is how this explorations is being done. Instead of walls of text from inner monolog it's all done from the characters interacting with each other and talking to each other, with dialog that's believable as well and not stilted or wooden.

Art

In short Executive Assistant Assassin's is well... pretty. Very pretty.  Not just the women characters either. There's a tiger and a leopard shown that are drawn really well, and the weapons each girl wields are really well drawn and sleek looking. One could say the guns are just as sexy as the girls. The action, and there's plenty of it, is drawn with dynamism and impact. Which is why there happens to be one panel that sticks out like a sore thumb. It's just one panel near the end of the book but it lacks any motion or conveyance of impact compared to the rest of the really well drawn book.

In short this is still fantastic art, that one panel aside this whole comic really is eye candy and I have a strong urge to continue reading the book to see more art.

The cover and interior art is just gorgeous

Verdict

At first glance it may seem a little bit cheesy with the story being about extremely sexy assassins wearing skimpy and tight outfits. But it's not terrible, and it's not fluff either. Check it out, it definitely won't hurt and you will get more out of it than you thought if you've never read Executive Assistant Assassins (or EA: Iris) before. If you have been reading before then I say don't stop now it's definitely not fallen off and the story is only heating up from here.

Sexy, tough, smart the women in Executive Assistant Assassins are the total package I give this an 8.5 out of 10.

2013 Calendar by xaos

At the Broken Infinite I'd like to bring to your attention that xaos (er... that's myself) has created a calendar for you guys to hang on your wall for the new year.

Now there's a couple of ways to get your hands on this, and also a couple of options concerning this.

First you can buy a physical calendar from deviantart by clicking on the above picture and clicking on art gift. The calendar is 25 dollars printed by them. But they do a great job on it. (Plus, I can't change the price unless I'm a premium member)

Another thing worth checking out is the gallery, you can look at the individual months and if only one or two months strike your fancy you can get those as a print individually, that also includes the covers. Now those can be much cheaper depending on what kind of print you choose they can range from a postcard size that's like only a dollar or to a big poster size that's, well... more than a dollar.

Finally, if you'd like to print it yourself and don't want to spend 25 dollars, you can donate to paypal, a minimum of 5 dollars will get you a PDF emailed directly to you that is print quality.

Make sure to drop a line to TrueIkariWarriors@gmail.com if you don't receive your PDF withing 2 days. I always want to make sure that you get what you paid for. If you donate 10 dollars I'll give some extra art, actually I'll make it of whatever you like (as long as it's not porn, ecchi is ok). Donate right here: and let me know of any problems you have or if you just happen to really like it.

Cosplay Hottie of the Month October 2012

Hey there Infiknights , your Friendly Neighborhood Infiknight here coming at you with my first selection for Cosplay     Hottie of the Month. So without further ado I introduce to you the lovely Kit Kat Caughtcha.

1 . What are your favorite geek vices of choice?
I’m into most of the geeky pastimes you can think of. I love anime, comics, manga, video games, etc. I wish I could get into tabletop games more, but finding the time to do that has been difficult.

2. What got you into anime/comics etc?
I remember stumbling upon Toonami when I was in elementary and middle school, but everything was cemented when I saw Yu Yu Hakusho for the first time on Adult Swim. I completely fell in love with the story and the characters and just couldn’t imagine that something that good had existed without me knowing. When I finally saw Cowboy Bebop I knew it was a lifelong love.

3. What got you into cosplay?
I honestly was just roaming around the internet one day last year and ran into cosplay.com. I hadn’t really known there was that big of a cosplay community and just from looking through pictures and reading the forums I wanted to be part of it. About a week later I bought my Otakon ticket and started planning. The rest is history.

4. What are some of your favorite anime/games?
I am a huge Shin Megami fangirl, so I love every game I’ve played in that series, including Persona 3&4, Devil Survivor, and Nocturne so far. I’m also a huge fan of classics, but since my genre of choice is JRPGs and playthrough times for me are pretty crazy (completionist), I haven’t gotten through as many as I’d like.
In terms of anime I could pick a favorite from almost every genre… But a few of my all time favorites would be Serial Experiments Lain, Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, Claymore, and Betterman.

5. What are your favorite foods?
I could literally eat pizza every day, constantly, if it wouldn’t make me chubby :/
I am also partial to ice cream sundaes

6. What is the best part of cosplaying?
Getting to escape from reality and be someone else for a day. It’s fun that you can go from a school girl to a warrior princess in the space of one weekend con just by changing your outfit

Pokemon Gold Let's Play Episode 2

Oh God this video is so old I don't even have Audio Hijack Pro yet! D: Plus I'm commenting with someone who no longer makes any content on the internet.
